What to do on your log cabin holiday this month...

With autumn in full swing now the list of things to enjoy has changed once again. Amazing autumnal colours are all around the lake and the crunch of leaves on the floor makes it the best time of year to take in the 2 mile lakeside nature trail. The best colours always come from our collection of Norway maple, red oaks, red willow, dog wood, silver birch varieties and liquid amber trees. Wrap up warm and keep your eyes peeled for our resident otter family and other rare birds. You could also choose to discover the 100 acres of water in your rowing boat, either the romantic old-fashioned way by actually rowing (and keeping warm at the same time!) or with the help of an electric outboard.

If you’re an early riser make sure you look out to the lake first thing in the morning to see the amazing mists that develop as the lakes summer warmth surrenders to autumns colder temperatures. A perfect spot to witness this is in your lakeside swing chair with a cup of something hot in hand. Whatever you’re doing outside you can look forward to coming back to your cosy log cabin where you can chuck more logs onto the fire before losing yourself in that book you’ve been meaning to read or catching up on a good box set! Shorter days mean more time to cook up some delicious foods to feast on. Autumn is one of the best times of year to go out and buy local Cotswold food whether its from the epic Stroud Farmers Market on Saturday mornings or from one of the many farm shops near by.

As we say in every season – finish each day in the hot tub. The contrast of colder air outside makes the steaming hot tub even more inviting. If you’re lucky enough to enjoy a clear, still autumnal night, with millions of stars above and the silhouette of the lake and sounds of the nature reserve all around, it never fails to be a night long remembered.

Top 3 things to do in the local area at the moment: 1. Head to Westonbirt Arboretum to walk amongst the world famous autumn colour. 2. Enjoy a morning meeting the best Cotswold food producers at Stroud Farmers Market. 3. Be inspired at the Cheltenham Literature Festival
