What to do on your log cabin holiday this month...
It’s been a late start for Spring this year but April will hopefully be the month in 2018 that we see the first warm days filled with wildflowers and fresh green shoots. After a long and cold (but always cosy at the lake!) winter, the fresh greens of springs are always a welcome sight. Breeding season gets into full swing and a chorus of bird song fills the morning air. Our lake is home to many unusual species and whether you a birdwatcher or not, you will no doubt be charmed by the many birds and beasts that you share your lake holiday with. Take a moment to unwind in your hot tub, from your cabins swing chair or from the end of your jetty and you’ll realise that nature is all around.
If you get a nice warm spring day (always best to take a raincoat in case you find yourself in an April shower though!) one of our favorite things to do is cycle to The Potting Shed in Crudwell. This 40 minute or so cycle takes you through some lovely Cotswold villages before arriving for a well deserved gastro meal. Make sure you stop at Oaksey on the way to wonder around the bluebell wood. The paths which crisscross this magical woodland allow you to appreciate the romantic vistas of this perfect English scene. In your log cabin you will find a local OS map which is useful to take so that you can find your way. Another great cycle trip is to Jolly Nice Farm Shop where you can treat yourself to one of their famous burgers. Pick up some other local treats whilst there to enjoy from the comfort of your cosy Cotswold holiday cottage. Take a look at our online Cotswold holidays guide for more inspiration of things to do in the Cotswold’s in April. Back at the lake, this is usually the month that our cherry trees come into blossom and both Lake Springs House and Mayo Landing have stunning cherry trees outside which are lovely to see. Swathes of primroses, ox-eye daisy’s, cowslips and daffodils, to name a few, bring colour to your time away.
This is a great time of year to get in shape for summer and a fitness holiday at the lake has lots to offer. From active days on the water, on a paddle board, kayak or rowing boat, to a few hours cycling around the gorgeous Cotswold scenery. You’ll find the 2 mile lake track is perfect for running around too and is a great circuit to tick off each day. Treat your muscles to a long soak in the hot tub after each workout or better still a luxury spa treatment in your cabin. Alternatively, how about a fishing holiday with clear waters and a little warmth in the air. Look forward to days spent floating around in your boat as you try to find the best places to catch. We can point you towards a few spots but nothing beats exploring the 100 acres of water yourself. Whilst waiting for a bite you may be lucky enough to get a close encounter with our otter family or perhaps see the mating courtship dance of some great crested grebe.
