What to do on your log cabin holiday this month...

May is our favorite month at the lake! A long weekend in the Cotswolds is alive with possibilities. Put your winter clothes away and pack some summer outfits for the warmer days ahead. This is the time when swathes of wild flowers bring an explosion of colour to our beautiful nature reserve in the Cotswold Water Park. From the first oxeye daises and red campion to bluebells and ragged robin. On the many islands you may see swans, ducks, great-crested grebe and heron nesting and perhaps even the first hatchlings of the year bravely following their mothers across the water. This makes it a magical month for birdwatching holidays. Make sure you take your binoculars from the cabin with you in the boat so you can see these wonderful sights even closer. From early morning bird song to a dawn chorus on the lake – nature is really all around in May.

This month is a great time to explore the Cotswolds too. The summer events calendar really gets going in May and some highlights to check out include the Cheltenham International Jazz Festival, The Winchcombe Walking Festival, Music festivals at both Bath and Lechlade and the infamous Tetbury Woolsack Races! If you’re feeling brave you can take part in this old tradition and run the course with the wool sack – all we say is good luck! Check out our ‘Things to Do in May in the Cotswolds’ blog for more things to do whilst here. Out and about you will also take advantage of the quieter months before summer holidays and you can head to popular villages such as Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold and still find relatively few people.

If you’re coming to stay in one of our luxury log cabins for your honeymoon this May you’re in for the perfect romantic retreat with lots of peaceful spots to escape to each day. Long lazy days spent bobbing round in your rowing boat and unwinding in your hot tub are the perfect way to relax after the busy wedding buildup. The water is warming up now and time on the paddleboards and kayaks is just the tonic on a hot afternoon. Perhaps even some wild swimming too!

Longer evenings mean you’ll no doubt be outside to enjoy the sunset as you sit back around your fit pit. Roasting a few marshmallows and making plans for the days ahead. This might be the time for your first BBQ of the season and what a view to have one with. Head to one of our local farm shops to pick up some supplies or drive to one of the Farmers markets that are held on most days of the week. Make sure you get some delicacies to take on a picnic enjoyed on a hot afternoon from one of the secluded islands reached only by row boat. May starts to see a really wide variety of local fruit and veg coming to market so create colourful salads and try out some healthy recipes to kick start a summer detox. Don’t forget it’s asparagus season!
