Heading to us for a glorious romantic weekend in the Cotswold’s? Exchanging everyday routines for early morning steamy hot tubs, rowing around your own private lake, getting lost in our beautiful woodlands and watching sunsets from your pier. And we haven’t even mentioned spa treatments yet.
Most of our couples find this is often too good to leave – but it would be a shame to be in the Cotswold’s and not see a few of the sights, tastes and events! Below are a few of our top days out for all you love birds. Chosen carefully to bring you together whilst sharing some very special experiences. Lots of happy couples have enjoyed holidays with us and these days out are tried and tested formulas for the perfect romantic cocktail.
Romantic walks at Westonbirt Arboretum…
Always on our top lists, this world famous tree collection has miles of meandering paths that allow you to get lost in nature together. This is a great romantic holiday day out in Autumn when the colors are at their most dramatic. Alternatively, on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday evenings from 28 Nov – 21 Dec, walk the one mile illuminated walkway that frames magnificent trees against the winter night sky.
The best view of the Cotswolds – from your hot air balloon…
Take a once in a lifetime trip in a hot air balloon. Rise above the picture postcard Cotswold scenes on a still day. From brushing treetops to heights of 3,000 ft, see this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty from a whole new perspective. The experience is naturally celebrated with a glass of cold Champagne. If you are heading to us for your honeymoon this has to be high on the list.
Walking to the source of the Thames (our top free romantic day out!)…
Just a few miles from your lakeside log cabin is the source of the River Thames. If you’re a Londoner you may appreciate seeing how very different this waterway is a couple of hundred miles upstream! Leave the lake and walk just two minutes to get onto the Thames Path. Follow the meandering clear water and eventually you will find where the water literally gurgles out of the ground from a stone surround. Potentially play a game of Pooh sticks from here to London. The Wild Duck is a gorgeous pub that is centuries old and is en route on the walk back for a much deserved meal and some champagne perhaps.
A couples picnic in the Stroud Valleys…
An afternoon on the picnic rug cannot be beaten as the best summer activity in the Cotswold’s. Grab some favourite local ingredients from the Organic Farm Shop or a Cotswold farmers market, and head for a spot with a view over the Cotswold hills. Check out our ‘Picnic Spots’ section in our Ultimate Guide to the Cotswold’s for the best places to head to.
Snowdrops at Painswick Rococo Gardens…
Another day out in nature. If you are planning a getaway in Spring (perhaps around Valentines Day) then the blankets of snowdrops amidst this hidden garden valley are unbelievable. Check out their website though as they have highlights throughout the year. Finish the day with a night at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham on the way back.
As always, you log cabin holiday with its steaming hot tub, fluffy towels and big comfy beds will be waiting for you both at the end of each day. Sip champagne, listen to the surrounding nature, try and spot a shooting star, and plan the next days adventure…
