The final lorry from Finland has now arrived (along with two big Finnish men to help us out!). With all of the logs up in the first three weeks we are now racing to get the roof watertight and ready for the approaching winter. Now that the structure is partly covered we have started on the under floor heating and tiling of the bathrooms and kitchen. You’ll be pleased to hear we went for some local Cotswolds tiles that will look and feel very luxurious! With all of the log walls up too we are starting to visualise where our auction house antiques shall all be placed. As well as what still needs to be found! The hot tub has also been placed into the decking and it doesn’t take too much stretch of imagination to see how special it will be.
What’s been better than we could have imagined is how much light the decking gets from Keno Lodge. With a large area wrapping around two sides of the house it gets sun right through from morning to evening and when weather permits this will be great for outdoor dining. We have taken some large oak butts from a nearby forest and used these as rustic supports for the roof overhang. This covered area will also create a great outside space for dining beneath during the hot midday sun or on a warm summers night. Talking of light, we have decided to put a large Velux above the roll top bath so you can enjoy some memorable shooting stars as you unwind on your lakeside getaway.
Around the lake elsewhere it’s been business as usual. More regular spotting’s of the otters. Some people having to wake up at 5:00am to see it, others being lucky enough to see them playing whilst chilling out in the hot tub! The ducks and geese are coming in now too and once the lake starts to freeze all of the wildlife will all begin to congregate together in order to keep an area un-frozen. Great for some easy bird watching with the binoculars that you’ll find in your lakeside retreat.
With the autumn now coming into full swing as well there have been some great colours around the lake and the lakeside trail is really at its best. It’s now that we look for the trees that give the best colour. We then mark them and make sure that over the winter we take out any surrounding trees that may be affecting them. This way, every year the colours should get better and better!
Sadly the lake has now lost nearly all of it’s summer warmth so the wild swimming has come to an end for another year. Except of course for the occasion crazy dip! So onwards with Keno Lodge. Hopefully we will have all of the beautiful finishing touches done by mid December and ready for you to come and escape to. Currently it is booked for Christmas week but if it is ready beforehand for a festive getaway we will let you know. There are just a few festive getaways left this year in our cabins so don’t don’t miss out if you are looking forward to a lakeside retreat. More autumn shots, Keno Lodge photos and a Keno Lodge Time Lapse Video to come…
