If you’re lucky enough to get time off for midweek breaks they really do have a lot to say for themselves. Whilst all of your friends have the Sunday blues followed by that horrible Monday at work, you’ll be just arriving at the start of a few very memorable days unwinding with us. Before we even mention about it being quieter at the top places to see and sometimes even cheaper, midweek holidays with us also give you four nights in your lakeside getaway for less than a 3 night weekend stay. Which means both more time to explore the lake and surrounding area – and more spending money!
Here is our perfect itinerary. Whether you’re on a winter romantic getaway or a summer family holiday we think this should give you some inspiration to take some of that holiday leave and do something different with your Monday to Friday….
Monday’s just for settling into your cosy traditional Finnish log cabin. Taking the rowing boat out for a quick spin, unwinding in the hot tub for the first time under the stars and sitting around the crackling log fire. Catching up with whoever you’ve escaped with and making plans for some special days ahead.
Tuesday obviously starts with a lie in. Don’t forget to turn your work day alarm off though! Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on your lakeside decking before heading out for a long walk in the Cotswold countryside – an ideal spot for a special walking holiday. There are so many to choose from and even the popular spots like Westonbirt Arboretum or local National Trust properties will be pleasantly quiet at this time in the week. After plenty of fresh air choose one of our top 10 Cotswold pubs for much deserved food and drinks. Hot tub (obviously) to finish the day and rest your well used legs.
On Wednesday, you could head into the nearby town of Cirencester or go a little further to the Georgian town of Cheltenham where you will find great shopping as well as other things to do and great places to eat! After treating yourself to something nice head back to explore the rest of the lake with your rowing boat and to walk the lakeside path as the sunset plays with the lakes reflection.
For Thursday, perhaps you could head into the heart of the Cotswold’s. Start at the gorgeous town of Stow on the Wold where if you’ve timed it right you’ll be able to enjoy the renowned farmers market. Pick up some delicious ingredients for a picnic later. And perhaps some treats to take back home for friends and family. Spend the rest of the day in the popular village of Bourton on the Water. Summer weekends here can be fairly busy but today will be very civilized. After walking around the amazing model village here, hang your feet in the clear waters of the River Windrush that flows through this village and enjoy your Cotswold picnic, which you carefully scouted for earlier at the market. If you’re on a winter break, head indoors at one of the many cosy Cotswold pubs or tearooms that boast roaring log fires.
Is it Friday already? Relax – it’s the weekend! Enjoy some breakfast together whilst taking in the lake views for the last time and planning your next getaway together.
