1. Appreciate a cream tea or two and peruse the river walkway at Bourton-on-the-water – the Venice of the Cotswolds. This really is the quintessential village you would expect from this part of the world. www.bourtoninfo.com
2. Explore Blenheim Palace and gardens. The birth place of Winston Churchill, a world heritage site and oozing with history. www.blenheimpalace.com
3. Enjoy Sudeley Castle’s award-winning gardens. A great choice for a romantic day out with lots of history to re-live. The kids will love the castle and will no doubt require kitting out with wooden swords and shields! www.sudeleycastle.co.uk
4. For a really easy to get to day out pop along the road to learn a little wakeboarding at the Teli-ski lake. Don’t forget the camera! Teliski Info
5. Pay tribute to Shakespeare at Stratford-on-Avon and visit his wife, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. Whilst there why not enjoy a drink at the riverside inn, The Dirty Duck, followed by a performance at the great Swan Theatre.
6. Stopover at the Cotswolds highest town, Stow on the Wold. Unwind in one of the many charming cafes around the market square. In 1646, this was where the last skirmish of the English Civil War took place.
7. Experience the sunrise over the rolling fields whilst making your way along the Cotswold Way. You may want to pick up part of the trail at entry points along the way if you don’t want to do the whole 102 mile stretch! www.nationaltrail.co.uk
8. The best thing to follow a tour of the 150-year-old Hook Norton Brewery is a beer itself! Local pubs around the village get their deliveries still by traditional horse-drawn dray. Brewery tours should be booked in advance and are held from Monday-Friday.www.hooky.co.uk
9. Follow in the tracks of the classic ‘Cider with Rosie’ and explore the quaint village of Painswick. The valley here was mentioned in the book itself by the author Laurie Lee.
10. After any combination of 1-9 why not revive in your lakeside hot tub, cosy up next to your wood fire and enjoying the abundant nature that surrounds you on your lakeside getaway!
